Bringing outdoor education to schools

How we brought outdoor education to schools

“With residentials off the table, pupils were missing out on a big opportunity to engage themselves in developmental learning. These experiences are known to have a profoundly positive impact for young people. Taking Wiston on the road seemed like the natural way to re-engage with those who were missing out.

Vision to Ensure Residential Outdoor Education for the Future

A conversation has started with the aim of guaranteeing that our young people have the chance to take part in a residential outdoor education experience as part of the curriculum post Covid-19. A group of outdoor education centres and politicians from across Scotland have created a joint vision for the

Glorious woodland art made by our guests from Care4Carers, Mission Impossible with the Scouts weekend camp-out, a hearty Sunday lunch and the gift of wildflowers for the office, all in a beautiful weekend.

Safe journey onwards everyone!

And he's off! Good luck Bill for your 100-mile cyc And he's off! Good luck Bill for your 100-mile cycle today. One of our board members is cycling through the Lothians and Pentlands to raise sponsorship for our next phase of roof repairs, which we will soon start fundraising for.

Bill has completed several ardous bike challenges for sponsorship. He cycled the length of Scotland nearly three years ago, raising more than £2,000 for the Mile a Tile campaign that helped our first phase of roof repairs, and has also raised funds for Mary's Meals.

He's been back in training again with the Cycle Touring Club's Tri Vets, and today set out from Eskbank in Midlothian to head for the Tweed Valley and Pentlands, via Biggar. Training involved some pretty steep climbs, as the picture shows, but we know he's up to the challenge!

Looking forward to hearing how it goes. @CyclingUK

It's the start of Volunteers' Week, when we say he It's the start of Volunteers' Week, when we say heartfelt thanks to all who have helped us over the years, and look forward to welcoming new ones! Wiston Lodge would not exist without our volunteers' hard work. We'll be showing over the next week what that means to us, and you can read on our website what it's meant to one of our former volunteers, Heather, who is now a full time staff team member.

We're also recruiting for new volunteers, both youth and adults. To find out more via the short link: https://tinyurl.com/WistonLodgeVolunteers
