Wiston Lodge has been successfully delivering the Prince’s Trust Team Programme Residential for 20 years.
We firmly believe that Wiston Lodge plays an extremely important part in shaping the future of young people who have all but given up hope – Prince’s Trust Team Leader
A demonstrable proven track record…
As a dedicated Personal, Social & Emotional Development Centre, we focus on the emotional journey of the team and its individuals, building confidence, growing skills and enhancing their resilience, ready for the challenges ahead. We use a range of exciting activities, facilitated by dedicated, qualified and experienced instructors to achieve this.
It’s so important for us as Team Leaders to now that we are supported and held when out on resi and I believe this is one of Wiston’s greatest strengths – Dumfries and Galloway College Team Leader
Tailor-made Programmes…
Each programme is designed by our Programme Development Worker, in consultation with each Prince’s Trust Team Leader and is tailored to meet the team’s needs and desired outcomes. The programme can be predominantly built around Adventurous Outdoor and Environmental Activities or can be blended to include Catering sessions, Creative Arts Activities and/or Project work. It’s important to point out that, although we may have a planned programme, the lead instructor on the programme will respond flexibly to the dynamics within the group, adapting his / her input to guide them through the ‘forming, storming, norming and performing’ life cycle of a group. The activities are used to excite and engage, but our focus remains throughout on the developmental process. As much as possible, we fully involve the young adults in the decision-making process & activity planning.
Positive Feedback from Leaders and Participants…
Over the years, many Prince’s Trust Delivery Partners have returned to Wiston Lodge time and time again. Their testimony is resoundingly positive:
Wiston is a home from home…A safe haven where team members can challenge themselves without fear, experience new things and find their confidence. From the minute we book until we leave nothing is too much trouble! – PTT Staff Member
I really enjoyed our residential at Wiston. I love the variation in activities and I thought our time cooking in the kitchen and making the spoons really enhanced the teams’ experience. – PTT Leader
One group that booked Wiston Lodge for residential 5 times in 2017 was Dumfries and Galloway College, bringing both Teams from Dumfries & Stranraer. Alison Cother, PT Team Leader explains why they keep returning:
Wiston Lodge has been a lifeline for all our young people. It has given them the time away from their chaotic backgrounds, has let them find out who they really are and not who others think they are. It gives them a chance to explore and develop, to grow and to trust. It builds up their self-confidence and self- esteem and gives them the courage to face difficulties or fears in a safe and controlled environment. For the majority of our young people they have experienced bereavement, addiction, mental health issues, self harm, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, disabilities, medical conditions and Wiston helps them to see beyond the label others have given them, it gives them the belief that they are amazing individuals who can overcome any difficulties with the right support. There is nowhere that we would use for our Residential week other than Wiston Lodge – a wonderful place with wonderful staff and volunteers.
Equally, the young participants explain their Wiston Lodge experience thus:
My time at Wiston Lodge was amazing! I feel like I’ve made so much progress in such a little time and not just by myself: with my team as well. Team Member, Clydebank
Staff are really supportive and there to help you with your fears! Team Member, Dumfries
High point was getting to know people more so when it came to the high stuff you knew the others had your back!” Team Member, Stranraer, D & G College
