Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Pilot Scheme Funding Awarded from Awards for All and Big Lottery

Wiston Lodge has just received a £9851 grant from the Big Lottery Fund through its Awards for All funding programme. The funding will allow us to launch a timely, collaborative project, “Going for Gold!” with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) and regional secondary schools’ Additional Support Needs (ASN) units. The project will empower participants to work towards attaining their DofE Bronze Award while improving their outdoor survival skills and personal, social and emotional development skills. Under this programme’s auspices, Wiston Lodge will organise four five-day courses in 2017 and 2018, with scheduled activities taking place at Wiston and in

Path to Success: A Resource for All

Inclusivity of all children and young people is an approach Wiston Lodge adopts in all aspects of its centre development. Our key project ‘Path of the Little People’ is representative of this ethos. Our aim on the project is to provide a platform for children and young people with additional support needs (ASN) to use their imaginations, express ideas and develop creativity. ‘Path of the Little People’ brings the classroom outdoors. Outdoor education that focuses on building creative learning spaces, encouraging free play and supporting children to assess risk is what we are all about. We recognised that to build

Community Jobs Scotland Positions – Update: Positions Filled!

Welcome to our 4 new Community Jobs Scotland new-starts who joined us on year long job placements to help them get their foot into the world of work. They’re all a little camera shy, but Allison Rankin joins us as Centre Assistant, primarily helping Outdoor development worker Pete with visiting groups. Victoria Borthwick joins the hospitality team, with her time split between the kitchen, housekeeping and welcoming guests. And finally Thomas Moss and Connor Reilly join Micah’s team as grounds assistants. They have all settled into their roles brilliantly, and we’re looking forward to helping them gain the skills and

Volunteer Friendly Award

On Tuesday 6th June, our Volunteering Support Worker Wendy along with youth volunteer Aaron Ramage and general volunteer Helen Cromar attended the VASLAN Volunteering Awards at Hamilton Racecourse. We were honoured to receive the renewal of our Volunteering Friendly award, the first renewal of the award in South Lanarkshire. Volunteers play an important role here at Wiston, supporting our core staff day-to-day and bringing diversity and new cultures from across the world and sharing these with vulnerable groups we welcome every day. Become a Friend of Wiston Lodge

Since our charity started in 2007, we’ve been grateful to receive the help and support of many who have dedicated themselves to our cause.  Now more than ever, with austerity creating an even worse landscape for many of our guests, your help would be much appreciated. If you are able to donate money on a regular basis, that would be fantastic, but we also need skills to supplement our staff team. Your knowledge of business or marketing could be very helpful, or your enthusiasm and energy could help support our staff and volunteers. Friends of Wiston Lodge receive regular updates

Volunteer

Over the years we have welcomed volunteers from around the world who help us achieve our mutual aims by maximising the use of their own skills.  We are a friendly and supportive staff team, some of whom live in the Lodge and in the cottages on the Estate. If you’d like to find out more about volunteering opportunities with Wiston Lodge, please email volunteering@wistonlodge.co.uk, telling us a little about yourself and the kind of skills you could bring. If you are a member of HelpX, you can view our HelpX listing.
